Description:

The Palamà Winery is a small family estate located in the Apulia region of southern Italy. Established by Arcangelo Palama in 1936, the winery is now on its third generation of winemakers. Arcangelo’s son, Cosimo (known as Ninì) took over in 1988; the wines are crafted from varieties indigenous to the region and are celebrated for the expressive and robust character they exhibit.

The vines for ‘Fregi Barocchi’ are grown on the espalier trellising system; the wine is made from 100% Negroamaro (means “black bitter”, in Italian). The wine was crafted to embrace the classic style of wine from Salento; a blend of tradition, artisanal wine making techniques and simplicity.

Taste: This Negroamaro has great intensity and depth of flavour showing kirsch and raspberry compote. There is a distinct dried earth and leather note to the wine, with dried mushroom and fresh Mediterranean herbs such as bay leaf, marjoram and rosemary. The wine is harmoniously dry, medium-full bodied, with persistent tannins and refreshing acid.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now or age for 6+ years
Food Matching: Serve with pulled pork, BBQ red meats, or stuffed aubergines
