Château Maurac Haut Medoc

Chateau Maurac has a deep rooted history in Bordeaux's wine region of St Estephe with a mention in 1846 in "Bordeaux and its Wines" the well known Bordeaux wine directory if its time. The vineyards used to be several plots that eventually came together as one. A breath of new life was given to the estate in 1998 by Claude Gaudin who studied and replanted the vines to suit the mosaic of soil types of the land. The focus is today is one of "simplicity and discretion". This is true for the contrast between Chateau Maurac's humble building to the grand castle like structures and a philosophy that carries through in their wine making as well.

Chateau Maurac is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. The plum-like fruit notes of Merlot are complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon's structure. Grapes are harvested and each plot is vinified seperately. Blending and the ageing length is determined by the vintage and is carefully carried out to be the best expression and union of the these two grapes. Oak is used sparingly and the resulting wine has good depth and concentration with freshness and integrated tannins.
