Description: ‘499’ was founded in 2012 by two talented winemaking professionals; Mario Andrion (winemaker  at Castello di Verduno) and Gabriele Saffirio (formerly of Brovia). Located on the picturesque cliffs of Camo, at the top of the Langhe, the estate is planted to 14 acres solely dedicated to Moscato and Freisa.  The winery takes its name from the elevation of the vineyards, situated at 499m above sea level.  The cool climate here allows for the slower ripening of grapes; yielding wines with naturally elevated acidity.  ‘499’ employs minimal intervention practices in both the vineyard and the winery, which shows in the glass as they produce wines that are refined and full of character and vibrancy.   The Moscato d’Asti of 499 is in its rightful, high altitude, cool climate home situated on chalky sand and sandstone soils .  The wine 5.5% alcohol, off-dry and slightly effervescent.  In the winery, production is completed by the use of stainless steel tanks, which allows for all the innate fruit quality and freshness to be preserved. The production is incredibly small, producing a mere 6000 bottles per vintage.
Taste: Moscato d’Asti is a beloved wine by Sommeliers for good reason: its versatility. Its low ABV content, residual sugar and elevated acidity makes this wine a dream to pair with food. All while being equally as delicious to enjoy on its own. The fruit is tart and ripe lemon-lime, there’s an underlying herbaceous note of fresh mint and sage with and a soft acacia florality.
Cellaring Potential: Best enjoyed young or aged for 2-3 years.
Food Matching: Great as an aperitif or pair with salumi, fresh fruit or with desserts (or enjoy as a dessert!)
