Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni DOCG Arnaldo Caprai
Arnaldo Caprai, originally an entrepreneur in the textile industry, founded his winery in 1971 by purchasing 12.5 acres of land in Montefalco. In 1988, his son Marco took over the estate to revolutionize the grape that has been growing in the region for more than 400 years: Sagrantino. Today, they are considered to be a benchmark producer of Sagrantino di Montefalco. Arnaldo Caprai is further celebrated as a producer committed to sustainable farming practices and recognized as being champions for their winemaking in Umbria.
The vines are trained on Spurred Cordon trellising systems with a vine density of 6.000-8.000 vines (per ha), yielding 5 tons (per ha). The wine is aged for 24 months in French oak barriques with a minimum additional aging of 6 months in the bottle prior to release.

Taste: |
An intense and highly complex representation of 100% Sagrantino. The fruit is tart, ripe and dark; red and black cherry, blackberry, and cassis. The fruit is backed by notes of bitter chocolate, fresh wild mint, and dried red rose petals. There is an array of baking spices on the nose and palate; nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, anise, and cloves. There is a pronounced dried earth quality to the wine, with dried leather and camphor. The wine is dry and full-bodied with pronounced tannin, refreshing acidity, and a long and lingering palate. The wine, with all its power and complexity, is built to age gracefully. |
