2015 was a great vintage characterized by a mild winter, typical spring and a long, hot and sunny summer.  June saw lots of rainfall and hail to a few vineyards but this was followed by a dry and arid season. By the time September arrived the grapes had recovered and were in impeccable condition. At the winery, the cultivated grapes are arranged in a ventilated room to be dried. Through this process, grapes lose up to 35% of their original weight; this concentrates sugars, aromatics and tannins.  Gentle pressing takes place in January at a very low temperature followed by an extended maceration.  The wine is aged for 24 months in oak tonneau French and large barrels.  After bottling, the wine is further aged for at least one year prior to being released to market.
Taste: A very classic style of Amarone della Valpolicella; full-bodied with lots of complex aromas. The fruit is dark and concentrated, black cherry, black berries, damson plum, raisins. The fruit quality is dried and there is a dried leaf and earth quality to the wine. There is an underlying presence of coffee, cocoa and mocha. A great expression of this style of wine from Veneto.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now or cellar for 15+ years
Food Matching: Slow-cooked Lamb, Venison, Veal, Wild Boar, Hearty Pasta Dishes
