Pinot Noir Riserva 'Vigna Kofl' Peter Zemmer
Kofl is the single vineyard located in the immediate vicinity of the farm Koflhof in Aldino, (the lowlands of Alto Adige). Pinot Noir flourishes here at a remarkable altitude of 1.030 meters above sea level (3.380 ft.).
The south-facing vineyard is situated on porphyry and dolomite limestone soils. This, along with ideal sunlight exposure, and the influence of the “Ora” wind from the south create optimal ripening conditions for the grapes. The wines from Kofl show unwavering elegance and harmony vintage after vintage.
At the winery, stems are removed and the grapes are fermented at a consistent temperature of 26-28 °C over the course of 7 days. Grape must is kept in contact with the skins through pump overs and gentle pressing; this results in ideal colour extraction from the skins while emphasizing the fruit character of the wine. After two rackings, the wine is aged for over 12 months in French oak casks (barriques) and another 6 months in stainless steel tanks. After blending, the wine is bottled and aged an additional six months before it is released to market.
This expression of Pinot Noir from Alto Adige is dry, rich, full-bodied and beautifully balanced. The nose and palate show lots of rich fruit; red and black cherry, red currants, raspberries and boysenberries. The use of french oak casks in the aging process
transmit to the glass as there are lots of warm baking spices; star anise, cinnamon and clove. The length is long, tannins are present but well-integrated and the wine finishes fresh.
