Rosso di Montalcino DOC Fornacina
Cantina Fornacina was founded in 1980 and is located on the outskirts of the city of Montalcino. Situated on approximately 5 acres of land in total, the Biliorsi family produces wine with an unwavering passion that has been passed down through generations. Fornacina is committed to protecting nature and respecting their land and in 2004, they were awarded the Certification to produce wine from organically grown grapes.
The Sangiovese grapes for their Rossi di Montalcino are harvested in the fall, between September and October, once they have reached ideal ripeness. Once at the winery, the grapes are vinified in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. The seeds and skins are then left in contact with the juice for an extended period of maceration with periodic pump-overs. The wine is aged in large Slovenian oak barrels for several months before bottling.
