Gewurztraminer DOC Alto Adige
This family run winery was founded in 1928 by Peter Zemmer's grandfather. Situated in the village of Cortina in the southern most part of the Italian wine region Alto Adige, this region enjoys a unique terroir with influences of altitute, slopes, rivers and sun exposure. The Adige river is a moderating factor and the soils lend their minerality to the whites that grow here. A family of wine makers, the focus has remained to make wines that are clean, mineral and terroir driven, expressing the cool climate they come from.
This Gewürztraminer grows in the best vineyard zones in the valley floor around the center of Cortina s.s.d.v. The favourable location of the vineyards, ideal sunshine, and the good ventilation of the berries develop the best sides of the character of this varietal. The grapes are pressed and the stems are removed in the pneumatic tank press. Before being pressed, a 6 - 8 hour long cold maceration takes place in order to enhance the fruitiness of the wine. Afterwards, the grapes are gently pressed and clarified through the natural settling of sediments. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out with pure strains of yeast at a controlled temperature of 19 °C (66 °F). Undoubtedly the most typical white wine of Alto Adige; rich in body and aromatic.
